  • Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll joined Congressman Bill Young, Chairman of the House defense appropriations subcommittee at the 20th annual Florida Defense & Technology Showcase (FDTS).

Over 90 defense companies from Pinellas County and a few from outside of Florida showcased their equipment, technology and services at the event. FDTS is a reverse trade show that allows subcontractors to exhibit and meet defense industry contractors looking for new suppliers. This was a great opportunity for defense contractors to be matched with United States Department of Defense contractors and local subcontractors. FDTS strengthens the defense and advanced manufacturing sectors to increase local sales and develop partner and vendor relationships. Throughout the years many companies discovered other Florida companies who provided parts and services right in their back yard, which reduced cost and time to get products to market. In showcasing Florida companies more opportunities will be created to grow jobs in Florida. Florida's military and defense related economy account for over 700,000 jobs and nearly $65 billion in annual economic impact. That's 10% of the Florida economy said Lt. Governor Carroll.

Many of these jobs and much of the economic impact is thanks to defense contractors. Defense companies that provide private sector business capabilities and scientific and manufacturing knowhow serve our armed force and provide our service personnel with the tools to defend our freedom. These defense contractors need a skilled workforce to help grow this industry. Congressman Bill Young have been that driving force to grow defense businesses in Florida and to support our military and veterans. He is has been the hardest working advocate for veterans in Florida for many years and he should be recognized for his selfless service, said Lt Governor Carroll.

Lt Governor Carroll publically recognized Congressman Young for his hard work and support for the military members, veterans and their families in the State of Florida. Governor Scott sent a letter congratulating the Congressman for his many accomplishments in the congress.
